Working out with a Hair Weave

To all the true Divas of the World who don't let their hair get in the way of getting their work out on, I say to you "Go head Sistas!" Long gone are the days when you have to sit on the sidelines until it's time to get your hair done again at the Salon before you can hit the gym. For those of you who have no idea of what I'm talking about and why? Read the next Blog, this is not for you.lol.. Hair Weaves and Custom Lace Wigs have been my best friend for the past 10 years. I have fluffy, cotton-like Afro curly hair. It gets dry and brittle in just one week of wearing it natural. I can honestly say it is a major headache to be trying to wake up two hours earlier than I already do each morning to dedicate that time to sit their and do my hair! So the best way for me to protect my beautiful kinky hair is to Weave it up! As for Chris Rock in his documentary "Good Hair" he is a total Idiot! I would wear a bald head if their was no hair extensions. Hair additions make my life so much easier. I am a get up and go Chic. I spend 10 minutes total on make-up and lashes each day. I am not as high maintenance as I look and I don't have self esteem issues like that Moron tried to depict us as having in the movie.. Did I say "Total Idiot"? What a disgusting depiction of Black women and our hair!
Anyway, I even iron my clothes the night before and pretty much wear black at work almost every week because I don't like to use all my mediation, workout and study time on primping and prepping. I get paid to do that to other people. So I need to keep my maintenance low. That's why I do believe in buying very high quality hair. Indian, Brazilian, Malaysian and Remy hair will do. These textures are perfect because they have a slight wave in them that allows you to easily style it without having the pressure of curling everyday. You can run, jog, swim and sweat gloriously to lose those last 20lbs without having to spend hours in the mirror getting your sexy back..
You see me with my two favorite girlfriends... We had just climbed 400 ft above sea level to the top of the Mountains that day... In 85 degree weather with the Sun blazing on us. It was a fun day.. So here is a few tips to keep it Movin':

1. Prior to your workout, comb your hair weave out of any tangles before Braiding it into one or two ponytails.
2. Wrap your hair or pin curl it and wear a silk or satin scarf to keep it set in a style after you are done working out. .
3. When done working out,Of course you want to comb your hair weave out really good.
4. You can use a nickel size of heat protecting serum and run your fingers through your hair with it to tame any frizz.
5. flat iron, curl or just style and go! The beauty of a good weave!

To capture that one angle, that perfect smile, that perfect glance, that natural innocence or seductive mood is not only the Models job to bring it but a great Photographer has to know what to look for. He has to be involved in the study of that individuals uniquesness. That's why I have to give props to all the Photographers who have assisted me in making my work look great. Not only have I been fortunate enough to do business with some of the coolest, creative individuals on the planet but a good majority of them have remained close friends. I don't know why but I find most photographers very easy to talk to and very open in what I've wanted to create. So without further babbling, let me tell share with you my peeps. Efren Cordoba! I had to put an exclamation point after his name cause he is the "Issh".. This man really, really loves women the way he takes pictures. Well he does a great job with men too. But something about his natural ability to always get a woman at her best is intriquing to me.

Stash Stilonski rocks! Not only is he fine and sweet and kind, he got mad skills. This picture is not photoshopped. I repeat, no touch ups to this photo were administerd. That's hot right. Look at the perspective this dude captured in this pic. I was wondering what the hell was going on when he turned off the lights and opened the shade. I was like, okay... if he try and kiss me, I'm just gonna let it happen... (just jokin' people, I am really a professional and I have a code of standard to keep business seperate from pleasure, but damn this dude is fine! Holla if you hear me Stash!). Anyway, back to Stash. I told him what I wanted this picture to represent and he made it happen so much more than I could have imagined.. Every angle of the room, the soft glow of Sepa that created a 3D panoramic effect, the lines in my cheekbones.

Just freakin' Awesome and our photo session was only 30 minutes 'cause he had to jump a flight to shoot in New York that day so this was a last minute unplanned shoot he literally pulled off for me in less than a 24 hour notice. I can't wait to get a date, I mean make a date to shoot with him again.

The Asian Persuasian, Japanese born, L.A's infamous also known as "Master Kush"... Is the Prince of the raw photo... If you can take pictures this good without needing all that extra, you got me sold.
MK took this particular photo at night with just a touch of street lite background and made it happen. I loved the rock star edge he gave it with my Model who happens to be an Editor at a major publication. He made this pick look Sexy! Much props to this very interesting Photographer!

You've seen this Picture in my portfolio on my website, it's so simple, yet fashion forward. I found David on Model Mayhem, he had responded to my ad in Vegas and he was the one I chose out of 20 Photographs. Their was an Award-winning German film crew (Swen Goebbels) on the Scene that day taping my work of making custom wigs a line of temporary custom wigs from scratch so there was alot of action going on that day and I had to keep it together. It's tight when you can have a photographer that you work well with to get the job done. When you have another creative individual in the midst the ideas flow better. This background is aluminon foil I bought from the grocery store and we just mended it all together to create this rugged background.

Bizness Magazine shows Cafe Entourage style

You can always catch me at a Business affair that celebrates the local Community. Bizness Magazine did  this at Cafe Entrourage located in Hollywood previewing their own Fashion Columnist/ Fashion Coordinator, Parris Harris's designs from his new spring line collection... If you have ever met him then you know what a "personality extra-ordinare" he is. You walk into the room, he sees you, if you're hot, he says with a twist in his neck ..."Fashion". If you really got it goin' on he stares you down and waves his whole hand toward you like a magic wand and says "Rock Starr!" . I actually had the opportunity to work with him many years ago on a fashion show in Orang County for Phasion Tv... I use to be his term "Fashion" but now he calls me "Rrrrooock Ssstaaaaaar".
To the left of me that's Jarvee Hutcherson, President of the Multicultural Motion Picture Association who sponsored this event and my good friend to the right, Derrick Bradley of 925kyhy, Hype Underground. That's how he actually smiles, lol. Compliments go out to Al Johnson of Poses Photografi who provided me with these pictures and Curt Sanchez who were behind the camera of the magazines Special Event.
The Bizness Magazine is about Music + Fashion + Health = Beauty. Okay, I just got that from their website at www.biznessmagazine.org ... Anyway the founder of the magazine wanted to create a platform for Industry professionals and business owners who are doing great things in the community. That's great hungh? So, I really enjoyed myself seeing the beautiful models catwalk down the stairs of the Club while the DJ was playing house music. Delicious vegetarian Hor'doeuvres were served followed by gift bags too their "special people"... I wasn't special that night.. Oh well... Many local Celebs were on location like Eric Zuley from the EZ Show/WTV, Cerdan of 3Dimensional TV, Dee Thompson, Chris Woods and many more. So to sum the event up into one more sentence. The Vibe was awesome, the people were friendly and the night flowed like a warm summer night... Can't wait to go to their next Event...

My 3 Favorite $Dollar Store Beauty Finds….

Let’s talk people… Now you know… that you all have gone to the dollar store out of curiosity at least once or twice and got addicted, right? Or maybe you’ve been curious about going inside one but thought that if someone saw you they would think that you’re broke. Yeah, I know ‘cause many have confessed to me these things.

Which led me to my article today about my favorite Beauty finds in the 99cent store… I can confidently say that these 3 products absolutely work. I’ve been using them for about a year now and everyone tells me how really young I look. I already have natural puffiness under my eyes which so happens to be one of my family’s traits…everyone in my family has them. On top of that, I have this tendency to wake up super early and go to bed really late which means I suffer from “extra” under eye puffiness. It sucks when you’re my age! I gotta put in some effort to keep them away. But the cool thing is when I do tell people how old I am which I don’t share very often ‘cause they go into this ridiculously embarrassing scream and loud “Oohhh my Gawd, No Way…You’re Lying, seriously”… then everybody around knows my business. I’m not shy about it. It’s just not everybody’s business okay. The cool thing about it is, I look pretty freakin’ good. My skin is tight and I have no wrinkles…

The best Beauty Product I have found at the 99cent store! Hell, maybe at any store. It really works and it’s obviously hypo-allergenic ‘cause I am allergic to everything. I’ve never had an adverse reaction like most products do on my sensitive skin.

The benefits of this product are it diminishes dark circles and smooth’s out puffiness. It contains aloe and vitamin E. All for one dollar! It only has two treatments in each pack. So what I do is cut mine in half which gives me 4 treatments for four days (don’t tell nobody I told you that!) I do buy at least 10 packs when I’m at the dollar store so if you don’t see any left in the Marina del Rey area, I probably bought them.

In the past I would spend a hundred bucks on the anti-do-it all and take it away products on a monthly basis. So, let me tell you, I am not cheap. If it works for me, I will invest. Better than having to get Botox or Plastic Surgery which I’m not opposed to maybe twenty years from now when I’m in my 60’s but right now, I’m definitely proactive in my skin care. I’m so excited these patches really do work. I have extra money to spend on more dollar store stuff.

For wrinkles you wanna try the Nu-Pore Anti-Wrinkle Gel Patches. After thoroughly cleaning your face just peel the patch from the liner, place them underneath your eyes, slightly to the outer edge toward your temple (is how I do it) and leave it on for about 30 minutes. It sticks naturally because of the gel so just peel it off and rinse with water. Done! You will look like you got 8 hours of sleep (what’s that).

You can wear them 3 times a week. Now if you got some really bad wrinkles and droopy bags underneath your eyes, give it 4 weeks of consistent use. It took some time for you to mess up your skin (probably drinking and smoking cigarettes like a chimney, I’m just sayin’) so you’ll have to be a little more patient in the process. But they do work! The same for the Nu-Pore Anti-Puff & Dark Circle Eye Mask. It’s very wet when you take it out the package but who cares, it’s a freakin’ dollar and I see results immediately. I do cheat and keep them on for an hour while I’m doing my hair. The package says you can where them overnight. I’m not at that stage yet.

Africare Cocoa Butter Stick is the Bomb! I don’t go anywhere without it. I’ve been using this stick for about ten years now. I use it under my eyes for dark circles and moisture. Also to keep my lips looking smooth and kissable… It’s truly the most awesome natural product on the market besides coconut oil. I’ll probably talk about that next time along with some other cool beauty stuff I’ve found like this new gel nail product, you will live for! I'm gonna write about that next time... Until then..

This is C & J Beauty Supply in Inglewood, CA...one of my favorite places to get beauty products and hair extensions. As you can see they have tons of Wigs. All kinds, all varieties, all styles. From curly to straight to long and super short. I took this picture there shooting for EHow Style. The series of videos we filmed were on "Lace Wigs". You can click the link above to view them.
I usually make my own Custom made wigs from scratch for my clients and design them for various companies also for classes I teach but every now and then, a client will want to try one so of course I'm going to go with her and help pick out the best one. I believe every woman should own atleast one wig. You just can't afford to have a bad hair day on a day you really need to have a good hair day. You know what I'm sayin'. Just think about when you take your weave or extensions out of your head and you need time to condition, trim and maybe color your own hair properly. Or maybe you have this huge interview to do and your scheduled hair appointment to get a cut or touch up your roots is another week away. Maybe you're going to this really special event you wanna have some vavoom going on but your hair by itself just don't get the vavoom factor. Then a nice "Lace Wig" would probably be a great choice for you. Which is why I did this series. I wanted my customers to know how to clean and take care of them. How to use wear them with or without adhesive and the proper method for doing so as well as way to comb them out and what products you should buy for them. That's me in between Actress Teresa Sese of the thought provoking Independent film "Stand Alone" joined with another Actress, Television Host, Mara New on the Red Carpet at the beautiful home of Socialite hostess, Donna Spangler. She is also the Director of The Beverly Hills Film, TV & New Media Festival.
Executive Producer, Kenneth Monroe gave us an invitation to his intimate Black tie affair celebrating the upcoming release of his third independent film in which he also wrote the music for. Tasty Morrocan horderves were sponsored by Chef Jay of Cinequest and full-bodied wine by the legendary Rockwell Winery. The DJ played an excellent selection of music that put everyone in a great mood to dance, mingle and enjoy the night. Monroe is the main character, London Jackson, a troubled man who decides to uncover the truth about our governments tactics to keep us on their cycle of life motivated by control and capitalism.
Conspiracy theory at it's best, I do enjoy these kinds of movies. They make interesting dinner conversations that people get stirred up about. Alongside Kenneth Monroe, Filmmaker/Director Gerry Cisneros gives an edgy documentary style movie that will sure to have you walking out of the theatre with a new conciousness of what is life all about.

Using healthy hair care mainteance when traveling abroad is of extreme importance when your hair has to be styled with hot tools, hair sprays, waxes and other products every single day to achieve "the look" for a high fashion ad.
Jana loves highlights of color so we have to make sure that her hair stays in the perfect environment to accept it. Yes, when you see women or men with amazing hair color, it's from healthy living and great products.
Where you live can also affect the intensity of your hair color as well as what you are using on it. Living in a very hot and humid climate versus a cold and dry climate requires a diifferent level of care than living near the ocean with a moist climate.

FRENCH COUTURE FASHION LADY GAGA WOULD APPRECIATE!

When I thought about creating this dress from scratch using The Remy Hair Bump Collection by Sensationnel. I thought about Lady Gaga walking the Runway at an International Couture French Fashion Show.
Although, I have yet to see her in one. I love watching Paris Fashion Week on YouTube, pretending I am there. Showing my new line of Couture-ness! haha...and GaGa saying...I'll take two of those Mimistyles...
Anyway, back to reality, this dress was made for the International Hair Wars that was at the LAX Marriott, November 12th. Celebrity Masters from all over the U.S. like Weaven Steven (featured Stylist from America's Next Top Model), Brian Perry (Keisha Cole's Stylist), Ricardo Caballera (Playboy Mansion/The Emmy's Stylist), Phylis Patillo and Commentator, Gorgio of Beverly Hills from "Beauty Shop" were in attendance to celebrate "Hump The Grinders Hair Wars"...
It's like Fantasy meets Ghetto Fabulous meets take it to the next level styles all rolled up into one. It's a show that you participate in to express your other, other side (yes, I wrote that right)...
Where the confident and bold stand up or the weak and meek sit down and pay attention!

I really appreciate my oldest Daughter Chenelle aka "CheneMo" who is graduating from Beauty College. She helped me make this dress from scratch... It was so funny because I have never ever made a dress before, let alone one from human hair extensions on the weft...I really just wanted to do something different with her to get her excited about the "Hair" Industry. We had a moment in the design phase where we both looked at each other and said, I don't know what I am doing! We both laughed and I replied, "well all we can do is try". So a couple of hours later into making the dress, we got real excited as it took the shape of a Fierce Queens body.
My Drag Sista's would be so proud of me! The variations of dark chocolate, mocha and carmel colors created it's rich layers of a mink texture (but no animals were harmed in the process PETA, just a lot of bald headed people).... (Oh my God I'm joking! can you people please take a joke, they get paid to cut off their hair! jeeeeechhhh!)

This Mimistyles French Couture evening gown would not be complete without a stunning Mimistyles French Couture Top Hat ... My Model who Cat-walked the runway, Celebrity Make-up Artist Nicci assisted me with the creation of this Fascinating Fascinator! Of course it's all hair, from the Sensationnel Brand of fashion Colors (over 120 colors/styles) in the 27piece collection. The completed look reminds me of a Classic Hollywood Star meets Josephine Baker meets Lady Gaga on the Red Carpet in Milan.Can't get this fierce look with no cheap lookin' hair...Remy daarling, Remy...

Wow, It's Thanksgiving already...Can you believe it? Doesn't it seem like it was just summer, yesterday? Now we are wrapping up the end of 2011. So weird... Well this is the time when I reflect back over all the joyous times I've had this past year and the people whom I have shared it with. Save your Virgin Indian Hair Extensions

Guurrl, have you ever had a full hair weave put in your head so close together that your scalp started to itch like crazy a couple of days later? It felt as if you had not shampooed your hair in over a month? Was is that, ri-i-ight?
Well there are a number of reasons why that happens.
A). When the scalp is manipulated by braiding (which is the first step in the weaving process) old dead cells (dandruff) rise to the surface.
B. The dyes and/or fibers from the synthetic hair some Stylist may use to braid into your own hair that help to secure the foundation of the cornrow can cause an allergic reaction that makes the scalp get so itchy that it feels like your scalp is burning.
C). Certain moisture based products we use in the scalp can also cause an allergic reaction from the combination of oils they use in them. I'm actually allergic to mineral oil and beeswax based products. As soon as it touches my scalp my head starts to feel like 12 million bugs are crawling through it.
My personal product of the season is the Virgin Hair Fertilizer contains peppermint oil and other natural herbal extracts that helps to eliminate dandruff, relieve dry scalp and condition your hair all at the same time.
Now what's funny is that I had never used The Roots product in my hair while having a weave but my scalp was itching really bad and on top of that if you know alittle something about raw, virgin hair you'll find that some of the textures are a little coarse and takes alot of conditioning before its really set in the style you would like to wear it in...
I opened it up and filled up the applicator with the nozzle, went in between my tracks and OOOHH MY GOOdness, my scalp started tingling with a refreshing coolness, my itch went away and my then I looked at my hairweave in shock because it literally softened up like silk right before my eyes. It became more manageable and began to have this incredible shine that it hadn't had. Just a couple of drops inbetween your scalp, massage it threw and well-lah!

BIPOLAR FALL FASHION with RAW STYLE

Incase you happened to have missed me last month at V-lounge's RAW ARTIST Event, I was bringin' some heat to the streets of Santa Monica previewing what I call my 2011 "Couture" Mimistyles for the Runway.
They sizzled with sassiness as Bipolar Gear's designer LaRae Wilson unvieled her sexy cool fall fashion line. Certainly not for the tame and timid. These looks are for a sophisticated woman who dares to have some fun and walk in the room like she know she's the issh in this! Cause all eyes will be on you anyway.

Electric Blue paired with tangerine, Smokey Grey with kiwi, Fushia with scarlet red and sunset yellow are a few of the choices you can use to spark up your colors in your closet for the fall. "Couture Hair" flows into the mix like a peak of sunshine on a breezy day, full of unique expression, a touch of glamor but fabulousity all at the same time...
Look out for "The Man Skirt"...yes "the man skirt" makes an edgy statement of raw masculinaty.

So give the people what they want and step into the fall season with flava, you won't go unnoticed

11 tips to a Flawless Photoshoot

I hope you all are having a wonderful summer and taking lots of pictures with your friends and family. Take a good look at this picture above...This is a raw photo.
Raw, meaning that it's totally untouched or photoshopped. Now for me, this was a great picture. I absolutely love, love, love when I can take a professional picture for my press kit and not have to have major work done to it...It looks real crazy when your pictures look better than when people meet you in person, not a good look.
I definitely have to give props to photographer extraordinare, Stash Slionski for hookin' a sista up. We took over one hundred pics in literally thirty minutes and there was not one bad shot in the bunch (5 out of 150 don't count,okay)..
So kudos to him for his awesomeness! (is awesomeness a word?). There are some specifics that I must share with you that help me get ready for my pics. Now of course I am not a health care professional but I have been a Beauty Consultant for more than a decade. I have not only taught a thing or two but have learned over the years what dynamics make great shots so here is my regime...

Of course #1 would be to start off with a great photographer that has a portfolio of really high end natural pictures in his portfolio of other models... I actually didn't see Stash's port. he mainly works in film (East Pleasant Films)... Directors have a good eye for all the details.

2. I start two to three weeks before my shoot with drinking a gallon of water a day, it's great for cleansing your system and your skin...I bought several gallon jugs and keep them at work and in my car. Sometimes I put a combination of lemon and limes to give it a flavor that I will crave. Something about lemon and limes that make you extra thirsty.

3. Work out and sweat... alot... or stay in the steam room until your clothes are completely soak and wet.. Don't forget to drink a ton of water while your sitting in there. Sweating helps to detoxify your skin and the impurities in it. YOu'll also drop a couple of pounds and your face will look smaller and your cheek bones will look more defined.

4.Get rid of swelling under your eyes with preparation H...yes that hemoroid cream, lol.. I don't sleep well before a photo shoot for some odd reason, So I went into the pharmacy section of a drug store asked the pharmacist. She said there is nothing wrong with putting a small slither underneath your eyes to minimize the swelling.

5. Use whitening strips a week or two in advance until it's time for your shoot (actually 30days would be great)... There is nothing more flattering than super white teeth and it will make you look younger as well.

6. Practice different looks in the mirror for two weeks.. That will help to get the nervousness out in advance. Talk with your eyes..Say I love you. I hate you...I want to make love...Im beautiful..Everybody loves me.. ok..whatever works for you...think it in your mind and say it with your eyes... practice puckering your lips different ways as well... you'll be sure to bring out the Diva when youre ready for the shoot..

7. Shave under your arms...now this one is suppose to a no brainer but honestly it's not.. some people I've worked with in the past forgot all the time..
8. Wax those eyebrows..lighten those eyebrows... don't come to a shoot lookin like woofman jack okay.. thats not sexy... and lightening your eyebrows one shade up does wonders for your eyes and it softens the face.

9. Strappless braws and girdles are a must! make sure your bra strap isnt showing..and you don't have to be overweight to wear a girdle, corset, waist-cincher, ardyss (love those garments; body magic rocks!), a spanx will do also...not only will it help to straighten your posture but your clothes will look more sexy with smooth lines running down your body..

10. Invest in good make-up, white eye-liner does wonders under the eyes to widen them. Cover-up helps to minimize dark circles underneath the eyes and to cover up spots or blemishes you may have on your face. Don't forget to take visine...red eyes are not sexy...

11. Last but certainly not least...make sure your Weave looks Flawless and voluptous...don't expect to have high end hair if you're not willing to spend high end money on some good Hair Extensions... "you got to pay the cost to look like the Boss".

Or definitely go to the Salon and have your hair properly conditioned, get a great cut/shaping haircut (by someone who is properly going to be expensive but will give you the Best haircut you ever had!), get your ends trimmed , make sure you have professional color on your hair. It is the most important that will put the Icing on the Cake...

Summer Stylin' with Hats

I've never seen people rock hats with casual sheik wear in the summer time like this year or is it just Southern Cal people just got it goin' on?
They create a certain cool sophistication to what ever you wear depending on what type of hat you have on. I've always been a fan myself and will definitely be blending in..
I'm feelin' so L.A. these days. But I got to put you up on something. Hats can reek havoc on your hair. I have personally met many men and women who've worn them and didn't have any idea that they can cause thinning hair at the top of your head, around the edges and hairline...not as bad as UV rays from the sun beaming on your head but we all gotta be careful on the ways hats are made.
So here is a couple of tips that may help you continue to protect your hair underneath the hats.
1. First of all don't wear a hat every day without letting your scalp breath.. I know some of you have to wear them at work so I have more tips for you.

2. Even though you have a hat on outdoors, it's still a good idea to have a uv protecting hair spray (Paul Mitchell makes a great one) on your hair. Leave-in conditioning sprays work well for this purpose too. They help to seal your cuticle, condition and defrizz your hair.. You know how you be in the sun for a long time and your hair just end up looking frizzy? yeah, I had that happen to me the other day..

3. I've seen the sickest straw brim hats this year.. but OMG.. they will snag the hell out your hair.. Look for ones that have a lining inside so that they are easy to put on and pull off.

4. Don't wear hats that are too tight fitting.. maaan, that sucks when you have a convertible like me.. I be tryin' to ride in the wind with my stunna hat, stunna shades, reggae music blastin', burnin' rubber down Pacific coast highway.. I'm jokin' I do the speed limit.. (Did I just hear lightning outside?).. if the hat is too tight you'll eventually get a headache and have to take it off anyway...

5. Be sure to moisturize your hair at the end of your hat day.. Cream moisturizes or an oil free shine serum will do the trick.. Have a great summer rockin' those hats Southern CAL. Divas and Divo's.. Let's give the people what they want and wear them with Style...
